I'm planning to buy a new landline phone and I'd like to get one with built in talking caller ID AKA Caller ID Announce as the like to say now.
I've found a few that fit the bill but every system seems to have a built in digital answering system and I neither want nor need that as I still have an old fashioned answering machine and voicemail from the phone company.
I'm open to any suggestions of phones that have the talking caller ID/announce but especially if it doesn't include a built in answering system.
Just because something is built into the phone doesn't mean you have to use it. If you have an alarm on your watch it won't go off if it isn't set.
Very true. The last time I had a land line the phone had a built-in answering machine. All you have to do is just never set it up and you can still use your phone company's voicemail.
VH. Have you considered the add-on boxes that some telephone companies will offer? They do talking caller ID, regardless of the phone you're using. I don't have product details on hand, but if you're interested and are unable to find it via a Google search, I'll pull the information up.

Thanks, everyone. I'm well aware that I don't need to use the built in voice mail feature. However, I'd rather not buy more than what I need. I was taking a long shot that someone might know of what I'm looking for.
As to the stand alone talking caller ID boes, every time I've checked them out, the reviews are lousy and I do need to upgrade my landline phone anyway.
The Philips SJA9190/17 is a very small talking caller id unit that uses 3 tripple A batteries, and announces the number of incoming calls. It has only two buttons, and no screen, so entirely accessible.
It's listed on Amazon, here:

I've always found Panasonic phones have a lot of variety and are reliable. You can view them at panasonic.com
We don't have a land line, but lots of people still do for a host of reasons.
I would if I didn't use SkypeOut for work though.
